Honor Their Service was formed in April of 2008 by three Marine wives and a volunteer at Landstuhl RAMC to honor the service of America's military veterans by:

providing assistance and comfort to wounded veterans and their families supporting their efforts to live more productive and independent lives assuring all military veterans that their sacrifices have not been forgotten


Throughout history, military conflicts have provoked impassioned debate over the role of  force in defending free and democratic societies. Regardless of your personal feelings about war, we hope all Americans can agree the rights we enjoy today would not exist, were it not for the willingness of men long dead to breathe life into the Declaration of Independence with actions suited to its fiery rhetoric.

We owe a great debt to the men and women of today's armed forces. America has not always done a good job of saying "thank you" to those who defend us.

With your help, we'd like to change that.

April 24-25: Honor Their Service will be at the Milblog Conference at the Westin Gateway, Arlington, VA.

Operation Fresh Air provides families of wounded soldiers and Marines from Walter Reed RAMC and Bethesda NH with the opportunity to escape the hospital wards for an afternoon. In partnership with other local groups who support military veterans, we offer great food, sunshine, fun and games, fishing, music, boat rides, and above all the chance to relax and unwind in a beautiful wooded park setting.

Honor Their Service is now tax exempt! In April we finally received confirmation that we are a 501 (c) (3) public charity under the IRS code.

Honor Their Service is putting together a milbloggers’ cookbook to fund our Operation Fresh Air events as well as future endeavors.  Operation Fresh Air is a day of fishing, food and fellowship for wounded/injured servicemembers and their families at Leesylvania State Park. We need submissions from milbloggers and commenters alike in all categories (appetizers, sides, salads, soups, main dishes, desserts, drinks, etc.) If you have a recipe (or two) that you are particularly proud of, we’d love to put them in the book. In addition, you can submit pictures if you like.  We’ll include as many as space and money allow.

We will also be featuring memories and favorite recipes from some Gold and Silver star families. These folks, as well as our active duty (Blue star) folks, are the reason Honor Their Service exists.

Depending on the turn around time, we might be selling them at the Milblogger’s conference.  Our events are modest productions.  This cookbook will reflect that philosophy as well.
